Live in the Present
There are many goals and dreams that we may want to achieve in life. Those dreams evolve as we progress from stage to stage in life. When I was younger, I would always wish that when I grew up, I would have twins and a long life. So I took Exodus 20:12 to heart that says, "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long...". I tried very hard to be a goody-two-shoes so that I would earn my stripes for long-life.
Sometimes, the dreams that we have and the aspirations that we had for ourselves aren't all they're cracked up to be. Many people desire the married live with kids because they believe that will bring them the happiness they so eagerly desire. Some moms want to be the stay-at-home mom to spend more quality time with their kids. Others dream of living in a foreign country away from the crime and violence in our land. But what if just maybe, when we get this, all of this, when we reach this goal or that place, it doesn't bring us the joy or happiness we idolised that it would bring? Then what?
This post is quite short and simple. Take the time to appreciate your current circumstances, your current situation and your current location in life, despite where tomorrow may lead you and despite how far you may feel from the person you want to be and the places you want to be. The truth is that today is the first day of the rest of your life and a day that you will never face again. If you are single, enjoy being single and don't think you should be married by now, lest you rush to get married for the wrong reason and face a whole set of problems on it's own. If you are married, enjoy being married whether you have kids or not and don't get depressed over no longer being single. If you are retired, you should be proud to have reached this stage in life. Proverbs 16:31 says, "Gray hair is a crown of splendour; it is gained in a righteous life."
So don't just live in the present. Live in YOUR present. Live in your present situation, your present reality and your very present presence. Try to create your own love story for life, despite your current situation. Find happiness within yourself rather than in your situation. Enjoy the present to the fullest and acknowledge it for what it is and be grateful to be in it. Even if only to be grateful to be alive. Be grateful. Give thanks. Live in the present.
